MEET ME, AURIA TIEMROTH, UPF GROUP

Hi Auria! Tell me more about you! My name is Auria Tiemroth, I’m 31 and I am both Danish and Mozambican. My academic background is in science, with a bachelor’s degree in Geology. Along the way, I discovered a fascination with natural hazards and the challenges of minimizing their impacts and managing their aftermath, which led me to pursue a Master’s in Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation. Outside of work, I enjoy being home with the family, watching series and reading books or catching up with friends.

What is your background for choosing the industry? I think the best way to describe it would be that I stumbled into the industry. The most experience I have with forwarding, is a humanitarian logistics course that I took during my studies. it wasn’t something I ever saw myself pursuing. Yet, I’ve found it to be rather interesting. While I don’t work directly in forwarding, my role gives me the chance to observe and learn about the industry every day. I get to see the time, effort, and commitment that goes into making sure that all our clients’ needs are met

What is your role at the office? I have worked as the Corporate Assistant under the UPF Group for around 6 months now. I am based in the Mozambique office but providing assistance to all my fellow colleagues, in both our African and European offices. My role is quite varied; I handle administrative tasks, assist in developing company manuals, and help ensure we meet regulatory compliance. It’s been a great learning experience so far, and I really enjoy knowing that the work I do makes a difference

If I had to describe my day-to-day, I would say that no day is the same. Tasks change depending on the needs of the team, so I’ve learned to stay flexible and ready for anything. If I had to sum up my mindset here, it’s to always ‘expect the unexpected.’

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I think it is difficult to say; 5 years sounds both near and far at the same time. I hope to be travel a bit more and experience more of the world. In terms of work, I hope to still be learning and improving my skills regardless of where I am or what field of work I find myself in. While I don’t have a strict timeline, I would love to eventually work within my field, contributing to efforts that minimize the impacts of natural hazards. That’s a goal I’d like to work toward in the long run.
