MEET ME, VILLE MOILANEN, UPF FINLAND

Hi Ville! Tell me more about you! My name is Ville Moilanen, I’m 33 years old and living in Masku,  Finland. My roots are in northern Finland, Kuusamo, and I have a bachelor’s degree in Logistics  Engineering from Jyväskylä. For the past 6 years, I have been living in Turku or in the surrounding  area.

Outside of work hours, I usually spend time with my family, which includes my amazing wife, our beautiful 1.5-year-old son and a cuddly dog and cat. Whenever the opportunity arises during the  summer, I’m always up for a round of golf at a nearby course.

What is your background for choosing the industry? After high school, logistics became one of  the most interesting fields to explore for sure. My choice may also have been partially influenced by  my father’s long career in the industry. This interest led me to pursue studies in Logistics  Engineering, and I promptly accepted an opportunity at Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences, back in 2011.

The more you learn and immerse yourself, the more your interest in the industry grows. I was pretty  sure that I would return to Jyväskylä to continue my education, and since autumn of 2023, I have  been pursuing a master’s degree in Logistics and plan to graduate in 2025.

What is your role at the office? My day at the office rarely looks the same. Some days I am overseeing and handling different projects, other days I am building up offers to promising new  customers and meeting with partners. I have recently started getting involved with agency matters  through my colleagues, which means there might be days ahead when I get to arrange required  services for a cargo vessel arriving to port and even get to meet and say hello to the vessel captain  during the day.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In 5 years: I would see myself working with UPF, having a  few more colleagues at the Finland office and us handling more and much larger projects with  great service level. Life is a climb, but the view is great!
