MEET ME, NWABISA MTSHOTANA, UPF SOUTH AFRICA

Hi Nwabisa! Tell me more about you! My name is Nwabisa Mtshotana, I am 31 years old. I was born in the Eastern Cape in a city called Port Elizabeth. After completing matric in 2012, I went on to pursue my studies in Cape Town, where I did a three-year National Diploma course in Operations Management, graduating in 2015.
I am a very family-oriented person, so I love spending time with my family. I am a mom of two beautiful boys aged 7 & 2. Whenever I have some free time, I enjoy taking my kids to swimming lessons, hockey practice and golfing.
What is your background for choosing the industry? After earning my National Diploma, I began my career as an intern at Multimodal Logistics, where I dedicated over five years and advanced to the position of Export Controller. In 2020, transitioned to DSV, and later joined Africa Global logistics as a Sea freight Export / Import Controller and served the company for over 3 years.
I find the logistics industry very challenging and interesting as it is a field that is constantly evolving and there is always an opportunity to learn new strategies, no matter how much time has passed.
What is your role at the office? I am an operations controller, and my role involves overseeing shipments from A to Z. My tasks include monitoring and coordinating various of the company’s operations, managing costs, and ensuring that we deliver accurate, cost-effective service to our clients.
Throughout the operations, I communicate with the clients on their shipments progress, resolve any issues, and manage relationships with third-party logistics service providers to ensure contractual compliance and high service standards.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In the next five years, I see my myself as an operations manager within the UPF Group. Whereby I will be managing and mentoring the next generation to come and join the UPF logistics team. I also hope to develop and implement strategies to reduce logistics costs, increase customer service levels, and achieve operational objectives. My goal is to continually develop the ability to lead, inspire, and nurture the growth of our future team members.
