MEET ME, BASHIRI ALLY OMARY, UPF TANZANIA

Hi Bashiri! Tell me more about you! I am Bashiri Ally Omary and I am based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. I hold a bachelor’s degree in business, an executive diploma in Procurement and Contract Management in Logistics, and I am also a Certified Internal Auditor under ISO standards.
Outside of my professional responsibilities, I am passionate about cars and enjoy learning about different models and automotive trends. I also enjoy watching football and keeping up with various competitions.
Whenever I have free time, I enjoy visiting wildlife parks and exploring exciting destinations where I can relax, connect with nature, and experience new environments.
What is your background for choosing the industry? I have built my professional background around logistics, procurement, and operational coordination, where I have gained hands-on experience of more than 6 years in handling shipments, supplier coordination, documentation, and client communication.
I chose the logistics and operations industry because I am highly interested in how goods move across borders and how proper coordination can make businesses successful. What attracted me most to this industry is the dynamic nature of logistics, where every day brings new challenges such as managing shipments, coordinating with suppliers, ensuring compliance, and meeting client expectations.
Previously, I worked in roles related to procurement, logistics support, and operational coordination, which allowed me to understand the full supply chain process. Through this experience, I realized that I enjoy working in environments that require planning, communication, cost control, and timely execution.
This industry gives me the opportunity to directly contribute to business success by ensuring efficient operations, maintaining service quality, and building strong relationships with suppliers and clients.
What is your role at the office? At the office, my role focuses on managing end-to-end logistics operations and ensuring smooth coordination between suppliers, clients, and internal teams. On a daily basis, I monitor new pre-alert shipments, verify documentation, and ensure compliance requirements are met. I regularly follow up with suppliers to track truck positions, service levels, and timely delivery of information. I attend loading operations at sites and ports to ensure everything is handled correctly and according to plan.
I am responsible for tracking operational costs to maintain profit margins, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring high-quality data is entered into our project management system. I also compile all supplier expenses, proof of delivery (PODs), and supporting documents to complete logistics services efficiently.
Additionally, I provide daily client updates, respond promptly to emails and queries, and ensure clear communication regarding any concerns or extra charges. I work closely with the Logistics Manager to ensure timely invoicing and supplier payments.
I also support business growth by visiting suppliers when necessary, identifying new project opportunities, and working with the commercial team to secure them for UPF.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In five years, I see myself growing into a more senior role, where I can oversee larger projects and contribute to the company’s success. I want to develop my expertise further in logistics, cost management, supplier relations, and system-based operations.
My goal is to build a reputation for reliability, excellent service, and strong client relationships, while keeping a keen focus on cost control. Continuous learning is important to me, whether through formal courses, certifications, or practical experience, so I plan to stay updated with new trends and best practices in logistics.
