MEET ME, MOSES OKINDA, UPF KENYA

Hi Moses! Tell me more about you! My name is Moses. I am 42 years old and based in Mombasa, Kenya, although I grew up in Nakuru. I studied Finance and started my career working in finance across different industries. Over time, I transitioned into the logistics industry, where I moved into operations management. I enjoyed the change and the opportunity to work more closely with people, processes, and the day-to-day operations of a business.
Outside of work, I enjoy travelling and continuously upskilling myself. I’m always interested in learning new things and developing my skills. When I am not doing that, you will probably find me out on a nature trail, enjoying the outdoors and getting some fresh air.
What is your background for choosing the industry? My background in Finance gave me a good foundation in numbers, analysis, and understanding of how businesses operate. After working in finance across different industries, I became more interested in the operational side of business and how things come together day to day.
That naturally led me to Logistics and eventually to Operations Management. What attracted me to logistics was the pace, the problem-solving, and the fact that there is always something happening that requires quick thinking and coordination. I enjoy working with people, managing processes, and finding practical solutions when challenges come up.
The transition felt like a natural progression for me because it allowed me to use the analytical skills I developed in Finance while also taking on a more hands-on role in operations and business management.
What is your role at the office? My role is mainly focused on overseeing day-to-day operations and making sure things run smoothly. I coordinate with different teams, follow up on ongoing activities, handle operational challenges, and make sure tasks are completed efficiently and on time.
A big part of my day involves planning, problem-solving, communicating with different people, and keeping track of what needs to be done. I am also looking at ways we can improve our processes and make operations more efficient. No two days are the same, which is one of the things I enjoy about the role.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In five years, I see myself in a senior leadership position within the logistics and operations space, with a strong understanding of the industry and a proven track record of delivering results.
I would like to be involved not just in managing day-to-day operations, but also in making strategic decisions, developing teams, improving processes, and contributing to the overall growth of the business. I also want to continue learning and developing myself along the way.
Ultimately, I would like to be in a position where I can have a meaningful impact on the company, the people I work with, and the wider logistics industry.
