MEET ME, ZA-YAAN OLIVIER, UPF NAMIBIA
Hi Za-Yaan! Tell me more about you! My name is Za-Yaan, and I am 32 years old. I was born and raised in Walvis Bay, Namibia. I studied Psychology and Education, and at one point, I fully expected my career path to follow one of those fields. However, logistics had other plans for me. What started as an opportunity quickly turned into a passion, and before I knew it, logistics had a firm grip on me and never let go!
In my free time, I love travelling and exploring new places, as it gives me the opportunity to experience different cultures and perspectives. I am also passionate about learning new skills and expanding my knowledge, whether through hands-on experiences or reading self-development books. When I’m not doing that, you’ll often find me in the kitchen baking and trying out new recipes.
What is your background for choosing the industry? I chose the logistics field because I am drawn to its fast-paced and ever-changing environment. I enjoy the challenge of coordinating shipments, solving problems, and adapting to new situations each day. Growing up in Walvis Bay, a major logistics hub, also gave me an appreciation for the important role logistics plays in connecting businesses and communities. The dynamic nature of the industry keeps me motivated, and I find it rewarding to contribute to the smooth and efficient movement of goods.
What is your role at the office? As an Operations Controller, I am responsible for coordinating and monitoring the day-to-day movement of shipments to ensure that operations run smoothly and efficiently. My role involves planning and tracking logistics activities, liaising with transporters, suppliers, and clients, and ensuring that shipments are delivered on time while meeting operational requirements.
I also prepare quotations for clients and assist them with any logistics-related queries or requirements they may have. A large part of my role is providing support and solutions to clients, maintaining clear communication, and ensuring that their logistical needs are handled professionally and efficiently from start to finish.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In five years, I see myself continuing to grow and develop within the logistics industry while still being part of UPF. I hope to have expanded my knowledge, gained valuable experience, and taken on greater responsibilities within the company. My goal is to continue building my expertise in operations and logistics management, contribute to the company’s success, and establish myself as a trusted and effective leader in my field. I am committed to continuous learning and professional growth, and I look forward to embracing new challenges and opportunities along the way.
